Flexibility in curriculum design allows the department to serve the needs of students with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, including registered and practical nurses along with beginning students in nursing. The department aims to prepare excellent generalist professional nurses from a Christian Anabaptist perspective and with the ability to function in a changing world. Graduates are prepared to serve holistically in local, national, and global settings.

A number of beliefs underlie the educational environment we seek to create.

Foundationally, we believe that personal growth is essential for professional growth and that interdependence in a covenant relationship with faculty facilitates this growth. Growth is enhanced when teachers provide honest feedback within a supportive framework. Learning is also promoted when student involvement is increased, when students are partners in learning, when the goals of learning are clear, and when the student has the opportunity to practice desired skills. Mastery based learning, within the covenant framework, is facilitated by faculty and students partnering together, to enhance learning for students with diverse abilities. The educational experience incorporates a variety of methodologies in recognition that not one teaching method meets everyone’s learning needs.

Programs: BS, BS-RN and Second Degree students complete the program in 4 semesters. Also courses offered in spiritual care and cross-culture/missions. A cross-cultural experience is required.

Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s Division of Nursing is interested in offering innovative, Christ-centered nursing education. Our accelerated RN to BSN program is already offered at 8 different sites throughout Oklahoma for working RN’s. And now we’re ready to begin a four-year BSN program here on our Bartlesville campus. We’re excited about the possibilities that exist for Christian nurses to impact the arena of patient care with biblically-based values and approaches. We educate our students to be sensitive to the cultural differences of their patients, and to discern what constitutes appropriate spiritual care. The Lord has great things in store for OWU. And the Lord will use our students to make a difference in the lives of the health care community as a result. Come and be a part of it all!

The vision of Tennessee Wesleyan College is to provide a quality, liberal arts education, and to promote integrity and responsibility in a Christian environment where students can mature intellectually and socially, and acquire the confidence to serve in an ever-changing global community.

The Tennessee Wesleyan College Fort Sanders Nursing Department (TWC-FSN) evolved in 1999 from a joint effort of two highly respected educational institutions in East Tennessee. The rich heritage in nursing education at Fort Sanders School of Nursing in Knoxville merged with the long tradition of Tennessee Wesleyan College of providing quality education to the community. This initiative created a baccalaureate degree nursing program for basic and Registered Nurse (RN) students.>

Tennessee Wesleyan College - Fort Sanders Nursing program is a four year baccalaureate degree nursing program. Our main campus is in Athens, Tennessee and the nursing program campus is located in Knoxville. The program consists of 64 general education semester hours and 64 nursing hours. The RN completion track can be completed in four(4) semesters or one year.

Students benefit from outstanding clinical agencies in the regional area including Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Fort Sanders Parkwest Hospital, Peninsula Mental Health Center, East Tennessee Children's Hospital and Knox County Health Department. Our program prides itself in small class sizes, outstanding clinical experiences, personalized student/faculty relationships, low faculty: student clinical ratios, caring and nurturing faculty, Christian values and student mentoring opportunities.

We also have initiated a Center for Parish Nursing to partner with the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church. This Center will not only consult with current parish nurses in the community but also offer an educational program to prepare Registered Nurses to become parish nurses in the future. The first conference opportunity is planned for Spring 2004.
