Winter 2011-2012

boyandglobeDear Ministry Companions,

"Welcome to a world that revolves around you!" was an advertising message I heard recently.

For us, as Christian nurses, the message of Jesus is radically different: "Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:43-45 TNIV).

Mikaila, a former NCF leader at UI Chicago, has taken Jesus' message to heart. After working in a Chicago hospital and studying Spanish, she now serves as a volunteer community health nurse in Colorado through the Mennonite Voluntary Service program.

"My NCF experience reminded me of why I decided to become a nurse in the first place and helped me see what God was doing among us on campus," Mikaila said. "The community I found in NCF was instrumental in giving me perspective to see beyond myself toward God's heart for the world and the ways I could be a part of that."

This is why NCF helps students and nurses discover how to follow Jesus and serve others in nursing.

This fall Renee Lick, NCF Student Ministries Director, presented "What's Vital: Basics of Spiritual Care" to students in North Carolina. Together they examined God's Word to discover how a group of friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus for healing and how this story applies to giving spiritual care. "I understand now that nursing is a ministry," commented one student. Another said, "I now have a better understanding of how to be spiritually aware of my patients and that praying is okay to do for people who want it."

Our staff team is eager to help students and nurses follow Christ with their whole lives, but we need your help. Your financial gift before December 31 will help us reach more nursing students and nurses in 2012.

Please support NCF today so that students and nurses can shine with the light of Christ, share his love with others, and shape their campuses and the nursing world tomorrow.

Thank you for your partnership in the ministry of NCF!
