1. WHAT IS CHRISTIAN NURSING?
Nurses Christian Fellowship and InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA have written a brief brochure for Christian nurses called, "This We Believe About Nursing." Christian nursing is defined as, "Christian nursing is a ministry of compassionate care for the whole person, in response to God's grace toward a sinful world, which aims to foster optimum health (shalom) and bring comfort in suffering and death for anyone in need." Each portion of the definition is briefly described in the brochure. Members can view or download a copy of the brochure at http://www.ncf-jcn.org/membersonly/ctwdl708.php. To access the page, you will need your membership number (located at the top of this publication.) Look for more information about Christian nursing is future issues of Charting the Way.
2. NEED INFO REGARDING SPIRITUAL CARE? ONLINE JCN DELIVERS
To find JCN articles on spiritual care, use the search option at www.journalofchristiannursing.com and locate JCN and other LWW publications on the topic. There are currently 93 articles available to JCN subscribers and NCF members at no charge. This is an excellent way to review some of the current nursing literature, as well as classic texts.
3. SPIRITUAL CARE: DOES IT HAPPEN?
We'd love to hear your brief stories (150 words or less) of how you provide spiritual care to your patients. Send your brief comments to Email Cathy and if your story is selected, it could appear in the next issue of Charting the Way. (Sending your story implies permission to print. All stories will be edited for clarity and space limitations.)
4. UPCOMING CONFERENCES IN YOUR AREA
Would you like to connect with Christian nurses in your area? Go to www.ncf-jcn.org and click on "NCF in Your Area" or "Conferences and Events" to see what NCF activities are occurring near you.
If your region is not listed, consider starting a group. Email Email NCF for information and support.
5. SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS APPROVED: HELP STILL NEEDED
To date, two scholarships have been approved for the Nurses Christian Fellowship International Conference. One scholarship is for a nursing student from Nigeria and one is for a nurse from Haiti.
Scholarship funds are still needed to assist international nurse colleagues who wish to attend the 50th anniversary conference held September 14-19, 2008 at Hill Station Hotel, Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria (see www.ncfi.org/nigeria08.php). Your gift will have a global impact. Send a check to InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, with an accompanying note indicating it is for NCFI scholarships. Mail to: NCF/IVCF, P.O. Box, 7895, Madison, WI, 53707-7895 or online at http://www.ncf-jcn.org/donate.html.
